Chính phủ Anh vừa qua đã công bố danh sách 365 trung tâm giáo dục đã không đạt được tiêu chuẩn tối thiểu của chính phủ.
Theo báo cáo, có khoảng 260,783 học sinh tại Anh hiện đang được giảng dạy ở các trường kém hiệu quả (chiếm 8.6%), so với 206,991 học sinh (6.8%) vào năm 2016. Các trường học nằm dưới tiêu chuẩn tối thiểu chính phủ nếu học sinh không có sự tiến bộ trong 8 môn, đặc biệt là Tiếng Anh và Toán.
Bộ Giáo dục cho biết sự gia tăng số lượng các trường kém hiệu quả là do những thay đổi về mặt kỹ thuật đối với hệ thống điểm của chính phủ sử dụng để tính thành tích của các trường.
Sự gia tăng này dẫn đến những thay đổi lớn đối với hệ thống thi cử của Anh, trong đó có việc ra mắt một hệ thống phân loại điểm mới, kết quả thi GCSE của Tiếng Anh và Toán học đã cho điểm từ 9-1, trong khi các môn học khác giữ nguyên hệ thống điểm A*-G như truyền thống.
Các nhà lãnh đạo của các trường cho biết hệ thống chấm điểm đã làm phức tạp cách tính toán điểm trong trường học, vì kết quả phải được tính toán bằng cách kết hợp các hệ thống phân loại cũ và mới.
Phân tích của Hiệp hội Báo chí cho thấy, Tây Bắc nước Anh dẫn đầu về tỷ lệ học sinh ở các trường học kém nhất, khoảng một phần bảy (14.8%) trong khi ở miền đông nước Anh có mức thấp nhất là 4.4%.
Bộ trưởng Bộ Giáo dục Nick Gibb nhấn mạnh: "Khoảng cách giữa các học sinh giàu và học sinh nghèo đã giảm 10% kể từ năm 2011. Học sinh có hoàn cảnh nghèo khó đang nỗ học học tập, đảm bảo rằng họ có kiến thức và kỹ năng cần thiết để vận dụng vào cuộc sống của mình".
